Interactive Viewer Help

The Interactive viewer lets you view data from your report. It also helps you do complicated searches on your report data. It also lets you perform text searches, and searches based on Boolean operators.

Here is a complete list of topics covered in this help:

Group Tree

The Group Tree provides a list of the values that the report data is grouped on. Clicking the Group Tree button shows or hides the Group Tree. To navigate to a particular group in your report, click the group in the group list in the Group Tree.

For more information, see the Crystal Reports Online Help (crw.chm) and search for the topic "Grouping."

Text Search

You can search for any text string in your report. Type the string in the text input field and click the find button beside the text box.

Note: If you are on page two, and you search for something that is on page one of your report, the viewer will not find it. It can only search from the next page forward. So if you're on page three, it will only search from page four to the end of your report.

Advanced Search Wizard

When you click on the "Show/Hide Advanced Search Wizard" button, the wizard will appear at the top of the viewer. The wizard lets you perform a search on your report data using boolean operators.

Note: In some cases, you may not have the Advanced Search Wizard available in your viewer. This will depend on how your Administrator has set up the report.

Step 1: Select a condition.

  1. Type in a condition in the text box.
  2. Go to step 2.

Or

  1. Click the "Structured" button below the text box and you will be able to select your field and filter from drop down boxes.
  2. If you want to add more than one filter to your condition, you can click the "Add more filters..." button below the drop down box. If you add more filters than you are using, you can leave the unused filters blank and they will be ignored when you go to step 2.
  3. When you are finished, click the "Free Form" button to go back to the unstructured method of entering the condition. Or go to step 2.

Note: If you are in the "free form" mode for entering the condition and your condition is complicated or contains complex filters, you will not be able to go to the "structured" method.

Step 2: Field selection.

  1. Select the fields you want displayed in your search results.
  2. Go to step 3.

Step 3: The search results are displayed in a table.

Note: In order to save your search changes, you must complete all three steps in the Advanced Search Wizard.

Now the report shows the search table listing the results of the Boolean search you just performed. If there is no information matching the criteria you entered, no search table is displayed.

Once the table is displayed, you can export the search results to MS Word, MS Excel or to HTML using the export button.

Note: If you export the search table, you must close the export window before exporting the table again in the same session.

To close the Advanced Search Wizard, click the Show/Hide button again.
